Education and Career Development
Enables youth to become proficient in basic education disciplines, to apply
learning to everyday situations and to embrace technology.
- Success Starts Here - SSBGC wants to make certain that its
members succeed in school and ultimately in life by giving them a variety
of educational opportunities.
TUTORING* (M-Th) 6-12 One on One Tutoring
POWER HOUR (Monday-Thursday) 6-12
A daily homework assistance program offering
incentives for homework completion and progress.
PROJECT LEARN (M-Th) 6-12 An Educational
program that will increase members motivation to
learn and improve their grades.
- READING ENHANCEMENT (M-Th) 6-12 Reading for enjoyment
Character and Leadership Development
Empowers youth to support and influence their Club and community, sustain
meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self image,
participate in the democratic process and respect their own and others'
cultural identities.
- SPANISH CLUB* (once a week) 6-12
- NATIVE AMERICAN CLUB (once a week) 6-9 (once a week) 10-12
The Arts
Enables youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through
knowledge and appreciation of visual arts and crafts, performing arts and
creative writing.
- CULTURAL DIVERSITY (monthly) Programs highlighting a
holiday, cultural event or other activity expressing our diverse
culture.
- CREATIVE ARTS PROGRAM* (weekly) Programs that include
drama, talent show, and creative culture programs.
Health and Life Skills
Develops young people's capacity to engage in positive behaviors that
nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and develop the competence
to live successfully as self-sufficient adults.
- SMART MOVES (Weekly) k-3 (Weekly) 4-12 Preventative
program, which gives youth the skills necessary to say no to drugs,
alcohol and sex.
- RAP SESSION (Bi-weekly) A program that allows for
discussion and interaction with members and staff. Team leadership
skills, trust, etc.
Sports, Fitness and Recreation
Develops fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress
management, appreciation for the environment and social interpersonal
skills.
- FITNESS AUTHORITY* (12 Week Program) 6-12 Boys and
Girls Clubs developed a program to promote fitness in all youth.
From obstacle courses to a host of new games, the programs have
members on their feet cheering for fitness.
- GAME ROOM TOURNAMENT (Annually) A Club-wide game room
tournament. The members practice year round for this annual event,
ping pong, checkers, chess, etc. Minnie tournaments will be held
throughout the year.
- GAME ROOM IPL* (Independent Play and Learn) Members can
participate in the activity of their choice in the game room.
- OUTDOOR LOA* Outdoor Low Organized Activities
